Lily

Cats are a mysterious kind of folk.  There is more passing in their minds than we are aware of. ~ Sir Walter Scott

That quote....This face....
What do these two things have in common?  Well let's back up just for a minute and by the end we will revisit this question.

First of all, this little furry nugget is 11 years old.  She has been a bit...off you might say since the moment the lady I got her from handed her to me by the scruff of her neck and told me she has no personality....uh boy was she MISTAKEN!

Lily is quite smart - she knows how to fetch, speak, and sit - most of which she will do on command.  For instance she must sit every morning before she can be fed and she knows that.  She's very good about that.

But she is also very much like Clovis from the Apple Dumpling Gang (if you haven't seen the movie, I highly recommend this classic!).  She doesn't like to be petted unless she comes to you, she only likes to be petted a certain number of times then she will push your hand away with her paw.  If you do not heed her warning, well then it's your own dumb fault for what comes next which usually isn't pretty.

She prefers peace and quiet, often chooses not to acknowledge anyone in the room despite the fireworks that are quite possibly displaying her name and trying to get her attention.  She loves to play, she loves to look/go outside (don't judge by the picture below ok....), and she LOVES treats (it's usually how I get her to do something I need her to do, bribery I know it's a great quality for someone wanting to be a parent...shhh no judgement remember :))

But....this morning, oh well let's be honest this has happened more than just once, but this morning in particular I get a text from my lovely husband that he has given into the demands of a four legged fur ball with fangs.  See... Lily here has GI issues and tends to recycle her food onto my carpet so we were trying to get creative with this.  She's been on soft cat food for a very long time and I am tired of buying it, smelling it, etc....so we decided to try a food for sensitive systems.  It was going GREAT!  We hadn't had an episode on days!  So we started to wean her off of the soft food completely...well this is where things get interesting!

2 days into the "no vittles (that's what my husband calls her disgusting form of chow)" and she pees on my comforter, okay fine. 7 days in - repeat.  That was IT!  I stopped at Sams and bought this cat more food, and I gave a strict every three days rule to make it last.

No more pee, thank goodness!  But I notice we start to have more cat chow here and there...uh what???? You get your vittles cat what more do you want?  So we give in because every 3 days is hard to remember, and switch to every other day.  Again success for about a week....THEN
THEN!

Today this cat decides she is smarter than mommy and waits for me to leave the house for work.  She waits until her dad is up to feed her, as he does every morning.  It's NOT vittles day so he provides her with good kitty chow but apparently that doesn't tickle her fancy.  She sits in front of her bowl and cries for 30 MINUTES!
She whines for 30 MINUTES!  A CAT COMPAINING AND NOT REALLY MOVING FOR 30 MINUTES!  I didn't now cats did anything for that long other than nap.

She butters up my husband by rubbing on his legs and giving him love, and you know what he does....oh wait for it....

HE GIVES INTO HER AND GAVE HER VITTLES!

sigh....what a lost cause.

So now back to my original quite, she might look all dumb and furry but DO NOT kid yourself.  My cat is too dang smart for her own good and she knows how to use her skills, her soft kitty fur and her sweet kitty eyes to get exactly what she desires without hardly lifting a paw!

But we love her anyway...now if she pukes, my husband is cleaning that one up! HA!

Happy Tales from the Huletts

So I spent some time looking through this blog.  I always have the best of intentions with keeping it up with it but life always seems to get into the way.  But I did decide that it was time to give the name an update to include the family happenings now!

I want so badly to be good about keeping it up once we start building our home.  I noticed the last post I did was over a year ago when Deric and I closed on that land.  I cannot believe it's already been that long!!

Deric and I have been married for 4 months tomorrow - what a four months it has been.  I really do have an amazing husband.  Figuring out how to be "married" per say after being on our own for so long has definitely been a learning curve but I think we've got it figured out.  Also - learning to share one bathroom at the current time has been the majority of the challenge LOL.  I went from a home with basically 3 bathrooms to one...whew that is a challenge I don't know how my mom did it as a child with 9 kids and 1 bathroom (well all 9 might not have been around just yet, but you get the picture).
So...let's talk wedding for a minute.  What a day!  We were so lucky to have the beautiful weather we did.  It was warm that day, but not sweltering and IT DID NOT RAIN!
I was so worried it was going to rain, it rained all week and 2 days before the wedding we even had tornadoes in the area...uh no!
Most of the day went off without too many hitches, considering the crazy logistical nightmare it was- just so much to do and so little time.  Everyone handled it pretty well though!  I definitely would do a few minor things differently if I did it again, but the major things would all definitely be the same!!! :)

We were table to take some beautiful pictures around town.  I found the Kansas City Museum of History and Science online while searching through Pinterest prior to the wedding and had to take our pictures there.  It was so neat!  It is an old carriage house that they've now turned into a museum.  Since we had to pay a fee to be able to take pictures there, the museum asked everyone to exit the property so we weren't trying to take pictures around people which was so nice!  I absolutely adore our pictures there.

The church was as breathtaking as always, and I felt like our subtle details really were the vision I'd always dreamed of for our day.  I truly appreciate that my new husband was such a good sport.  He definitely put input in here and there (i.e. he wasn't wearing a "girly" color for the wedding, he wanted to look like Tony Stark in his tux, and he definitely had an opinion about the food LOL) but overall he just went along with all of the shenanigans!

And finally the most important aspect of the day (besides each other) was our family and friends.   We cannot say thank you enough for all of you that made the journey (from both near and far) to celebrate our big day with us.  We are so very lucky to be loved by so many people - how many people truly get to say that in a lifetime?  It was truly a day that couldn't have been any better in my dreams!

Deric and I jetted off the day after our wedding to Costa Rica for a week.  It was the most amazing vacation I've ever taken (although I think I say that after most trips LOL)!  Our hotel was so fantastic - a small boutique with the most wonderful staff I've ever encountered as well as breathtaking sights, fun tours, great people, new friends, and the food...oh my goodness the food - it was so good it almost deserves it's own paragraph!

We went on to a wildlife preserve and got to hold the coolest tree frog!

Lunch at the Hard Rock CafĂ© in San Jose, CR

Picture before our last dinner in San Jose

There is the funniest story EVER related to this die. Our hotel had board games to play for when you wanted to just enjoy your patio...so we decided to play Monopoly (we had to find one that was in English LOL) and Deric got a little excited one night while it was RAINING and accidentally sent the die off the table, off our balcony, and into what was the black abyss that night...I thought for sure that game was just going to be short a die from then on...but it wasn't!  The next morning I spotted it in the tree while Deric was in the shower and with the help of his long arms, a serving spoon, and some tongs we were able to retrieve it and return it to the front desk before we left!!
The view from our balcony at night!

Our room was the one at the top left!  The grounds were so beautiful!

We have had a busy summer otherwise, which has been good, but we also had some time for some fun.  I think the pictures really sum up our summer!  I love that we have been able to find such fun things to do around Kansas City!  Until next time (which again I know I say it every time won't be a year from now...)...ENJOY!  Updates to come!

Fourth of July Weekedn was filled with treats, bowling, and a our first drive in movie as a couple.  It was actually kind of chilly (and rainy) that weekend and so there was NO ONE at the movie which was stellar!

Our nephew Cooper came to visit

Danica came to visit and we went to the Dixie Chicks Concert and found a nice place to paint too!

Deric took me to Body Worlds for my birthday - so fascinating!!!

We even snuck in a Royals game...too bad we left early because it was pouring!
